I have constantly worked to make Mississippi attractive not only to new businesses looking to locate in our state, but also to existing businesses and home-grown businesses as well.
It is important that we invest in our people through education and workforce training, so they have the skills and knowledge to work in the ever-changing workplace. We also need to continue our investment in infrastructure for transportation, energy and technology and to ensure that the government is helpful in growing new jobs and not a hindrance.
I want to provide more funding to Ole Miss for research and development that will generate additional economic growth. Some of the most successful companies in our country started on a college campus. FNC in Oxford is just one example of a university-generated business that has created hundreds of jobs. If we invest additional funds in research and development, we can generate a return of hundreds of jobs and economic growth for Mississippi.
Additionally, I will continue to support and encourage tourism which is a large part of our community's economic activity and hunting, fishing and camping activities that use our state's abundant natural resources.
